Some rows don't add up to the printed balance
The flagged rows are highlighted below. This usually means a page is missing from the PDF, the bank printed a fee or interest line in an unusual place, or a figure was misread. Compare those rows with your PDF. If our reading is wrong, send us the statement. We'll fix it, and it won't count against your allowance.

Why convert to Excel
Excel is where most reconciliations, cash-flow reviews and loan applications start. Copying a PDF into Excel by hand breaks columns, turns amounts into text and loses wrapped descriptions. Unclip writes a proper workbook instead: amounts are numbers, dates are dates, and money in and money out also have their own columns. Unlike desktop bank statement to Excel software, there is nothing to install or license, and the file is deleted 60 minutes after you upload it.
| Date | Description | Amount | Debit | Credit | Balance | Verified |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-01-02 | PAYROLL ACME CORP | 3,120.00 | 3,120.00 | 5,570.75 | yes | |
| 2026-01-03 | AMAZON MKTP US | -45.20 | 45.20 | 5,525.55 | yes | |
| 2026-01-05 | SHELL OIL 5741 | -61.34 | 61.34 | 5,464.21 | yes | |
| 2026-01-06 | COMCAST CABLE | -89.99 | 89.99 | 5,374.22 | yes |
Using the Excel file
- Open the .xlsx file. SUM, SUMIF and pivot tables work straight away because amounts are stored as numbers.
- Filter the Verified column for anything other than "yes" to see the only rows worth double-checking.
- The Summary sheet lists the opening and closing balance, the statement period and how many balance checks passed.
- Need Google Sheets instead? Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Sheets. Nothing gets lost.

What to look for in bank statement to Excel software
Verification. A converter that misreads one amount hands you a tidy spreadsheet that is quietly wrong, and you find out at reconciliation. Look for software that checks its own output against the balances the bank printed and shows you which rows it could not confirm. Unclip does this on every statement and flags the exact row.
Numbers, not text. Many tools paste amounts as text, so SUM returns zero until you clean the column. The .xlsx from Unclip stores amounts as numbers with two decimals and dates as real Excel dates.
Layout handling. Statements wrap long descriptions onto a second line, print the date once per day, split debits and credits into separate columns, and repeat the header on every page. Good software joins, carries down and merges these without creating phantom rows.
Pricing per statement, not per page. Page credits run out fastest on exactly the long statements you most need converted. Unclip counts one PDF of up to 50 pages as one statement, and statements that do not reconcile are refunded automatically.
Privacy. Bank statements are sensitive. Prefer software that deletes files quickly and says so in plain words. Unclip deletes uploads 60 minutes after conversion, never asks for a bank login, and never uses statements to train models.
Online converter or desktop software?
Desktop bank statement to Excel software (MoneyThumb, ProperConvert and similar) runs on Windows, is licensed per machine, and keeps the file on your computer. It suits firms with a locked-down IT policy and very high volumes.
An online converter runs on any computer, Mac included, with nothing to install or update, and you only pay for what you convert. The trade-off is that the PDF is uploaded, so the retention policy matters: Unclip keeps it for 60 minutes and shows a countdown.
If you already have the transactions as a CSV, QBO, QFX, OFX or QIF file rather than a PDF, you do not need upload at all: the file converters turn those into Excel inside your browser.
What happens to your statement
- Deleted after 60 minutes

- Statements are processed only to produce your file. We don't keep them, sell them or train models on them.
- Encrypted in transit and at rest
- Uploads travel over TLS and are stored encrypted until they're deleted.
- No bank login, ever
- We only read the PDF you choose. We never ask for your online banking credentials.
Questions
Is this bank statement to Excel software free?
Your first statement each day is free, with no account and no software to install. Plans start at $19 a month for 40 statements, or $4 for a single statement. Statements that do not reconcile are refunded to your allowance automatically.
What is the best bank statement to Excel software?
The best tool is the one whose output you do not have to check by hand. Compare converters on four points: whether every row is verified against the printed balance, whether amounts arrive as numbers, how wrapped descriptions and multi-page statements are handled, and whether you pay per statement or per page. Our comparison pages set Unclip against DocuClipper, BankStatementConverter.com and MoneyThumb on exactly those points.
Will the amounts be numbers or text in Excel?
Numbers. They're formatted with two decimals and thousands separators, so formulas work without any cleanup.
Which columns does the Excel sheet have?
Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit, Balance and Verified, plus a Summary sheet with the opening and closing balances and the statement period. Dates are real Excel dates, so sorting and pivots behave.
Can I convert a scanned bank statement to Excel?
Not yet. Scanned statements are detected before you pay, so you're never charged for a file we can't read. Scanned support is on the roadmap; meanwhile send us the file and a person will convert it.
Can I convert several months into one sheet?
Yes, on the Solo and Practice plans: upload several statements and they're merged into one ledger, with overlapping transactions removed.
Does it work on a Mac?
Yes. It runs in the browser, so Mac, Windows, Linux and iPad all work. There is no download.
